Gebaseerd op het boek van María Dolores Fernández Figueres “De eerste filosofen” zullen we tijdens deze lezing op zoek gaan naar de oorsprong van wijsheid, gevolgd door een historische reis, en eindigen met de mythen van de zeven wijzen.
Het is een uitnodiging om opnieuw te beginnen met denken en opnieuw te leren denken vanaf het begin. Het is een uitnodiging om een minder bekend deel van de filosofie te herontdekken, de pre-Socratici, filosofen van voor Socrates van wie weinig kennis bewaard is gebleven, maar die een opmerkelijke wijsheid met zich meedragen die we samen gaan verkennen.
We gaan een weinig bekende periode van Griekenland verkennen, met zijn rijke beschavingen tussen 3000 en 1200 voor Christus, waaronder de Cycladen, en de donkere periode van Griekenland, de zwarte eeuwen tussen 1100 en 800 voor Christus. Wijze mannen gaven waardevolle kennis door die de weg vrijmaakte voor het ontstaan van de filosofie en de pre-Socratische filosofen, tot aan de gouden eeuw van het Griekse denken, belichaamd door Socrates, Plato en Aristoteles.
Deze reis door de tijd en de culturele ruimte van de Grieken illustreert de voortdurende zoektocht naar wijsheid, van historische uitdagingen tot filosofische reflecties die ons oproepen om onze eigen perceptie van kennis te herzien.

doelen in ons leven, zowel van grote projecten buiten ons als ook van het contact met onze innerlijke wereld. Je kan het vergelijken met een aap, die altijd aandacht trekt door van hier naar daar te bewegen en hoe meer je probeert hem te ignoreren, hoe wilder hij zich gedraagt en ons zo toch efficiënt afleidt.
Toch is er een uitweg, want we hebben twee vrienden. Enerzijds zit in ons deze stem, onze hogere ik, sommige noemen het ook onze ziel, die ons naar ons echte zijn wil leiden. Het begint meestal met een bepaald gevoel, dat wij in ons leven niet het juiste aan het doen zijn. Met de tijd versterkt deze perceptie: Het is het begin van onze innerlijke ontwaking, iets dat wij niet langer kunnen ignoreren. Anderzijds is er ook ons bewustzijn, dat zich door concentratie en discipline niet te snel laat afleiden. Wie deze reis durft aangaan - het gaat hier om een heel bijzonder avontuur – zou met blijkbaar onoplosbare obstakels geconfronteerd worden, maar mag wel de kennis van zichzelf en misschien zelfs van de zin van het leven verwachten. Dus eigenlijk niets om aan het toeval over te laten, of wel?
Eeuwenoude leringen van het Tibetaanse Boeddhisme hebben in één beeld het exacte traject met zijn centrale elementen, ontwikkelingsstappen en valkuilen tot de innerlijke ontwaking getekend. In deze voordracht zullen wij dus meer op het begin van het pad naar concentratie en innerlijke ontwaking ingaan, om dan vooral de eersten stappen van het pad van de Zoekende volgens de Oosterse leer te bekijken. En dan, beter bekend met het gevaar dat deze aap en nog andere dieren voorstelt, zullen wij ons beter gewapend voelen om verder te gaan...

gaat onze aandacht tijdens deze voordracht naar de lente. De uiterlijke verschijnselen van de lente zijn goed bekend, de planten groeien, aangename geuren in de lucht, de eerste warme dagen van het jaar. Maar in deze voordracht gaat het vooral over al het daaronder liggende, voor het oog niet direct zichtbare, en soms zelfs voor de ratio niet vatbare. Wij gaan kijken naar de basis van symbolisch denken als complementaire bron van kennis om dan te zien wat achter de symboliek van de lente zit. Door deze toegang komen wij dichter bij het zijn van iets, en kunnen een volledigere visie op alles wat ons omgeeft krijgen. Wij gaan ook in op vragen zoals: Hoe kunnen wij ons in het natuurlijke ritme van de natuur integreren en wat is het nut daarvan? Wat is de idee van de lentekuis en hoe is dit bedoeld? This talk will provide a look in our philosophical toolbox, how we can overcome these expressions of fear and ignorance individually. One important tool for us as philosophers is to live and apply human values and virtues - key to our inner growth and basis for higher consciousness, how to do so is part of the talk. We will have a look on how especially the climate crisis can serve us as a trampoline, as it encourages and obliges us to accelerate what we call “Human development”, if we – as humankind - still want to be here in some 100 years. This lecture will shed some light on fundamental aspects of the Spartan existence, culture, organisation and self-comprehension to first gather better understanding. What were the human values motivating this people and what can we today practically apply in our modern context? This talk will offer some philosophical approaches how we can tackle in a human way this unknown world of instability and uncertainty bearing risks, asking for decisions, pushing us out of the comfort zone. Because it is there where magic happens, any crisis can offer to those seriously accepting the challenge, not only honour and glory, but true human development and societal growth. It all depends on you!
About the lecturer : Thomas Zögg is molecular biologist, and since a decade on track with practical philosophy: He feels the necessity to actively apply theory to generate experience, otherwise the greatest ideas only stay in the head.

Over de spreker: Thomas Zögg is moleculair bioloog en bewandelt sinds een decennium het pad van praktische filosofie: hij voelt de noodzaak om actief theorie toe te passen om ervaring op te doen, anders blijven de grootste ideeën alleen in zijn hoofd.

Een team van jonge mensen in een tentenkamp op het Domein van de Renaissance. Een week "uit de comfort zone". Veel plezier, training en verschillende vrijwilligersprojecten: dat was hoe het Herakles kamp eruit zag.
Het doel van de Herakles stage is om jonge mensen uit hun comfortzone en de vaak digitaal kunstmatige avonturenwerelden te halen en hen te confronteren met het echte avontuur van het leven. Daarbij moeten ze zichzelf beter leren kennen, grenzen overbruggen en vooral teamgeest en teamwork aanleren.
Overdag meewerken aan vrijwilligersprojecten, de opbouw van een nieuwe manier van leven, of ecologische werken, terwijl s’avonds nog meer uitdagingen wachtten zoals nachtoefeningen, olympische spelen, retoriek- en theateroefeningen en trainingen op het gebied van eerste hulp. In een simulatieoefening werd het geleerde direct in praktijk gebracht: na een zoekactie moesten gewonden worden gered en dankzij teamwork goed en wel terug naar het kamp vervoerd worden. Kamperen werd in de vrije natuur gedaan om de luxe van de moderne beschaving bewust een week achter zich te laten.
Naast de projecten is voor ons als praktische filosofen de persoonlijke ontwikkeling van elke deelnemer enorm belangrijk: hoe ga ik om met moeilijkheden? Hoe gedraag ik me in een team? Waar zijn mijn grenzen? Na een week gaan de deelnemers rijker naar huis met een schat aan ervaring en kennis.
Wat het Herakles kamp leert: Het is voor veel jongeren belangrijk om actief betrokken te zijn bij de natuur en de samenleving!
